The Long Shop Steam and Engineering Museum, Leiston
Situated in the nearby town of Leiston, the Long Shop, celebrates the rich industrial legacy of The Richard Garratt Engineering Works (sadly now longer in existence). Well worth a visit.
Snape Maltings, Opera and Music Venue, Snape
World renowned Benjamin Britten music venue, housing many of the Aldeburgh Festival concerts. Snape Maltings also includes a great range of craft and antique shops.
Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh
The Jubilee Hall is the venue for the world renowned Aldeburgh Festival where you can experience concerts of the very best in music ranging from opera, classical, jazz and folk. Along with Snape Maltings it is the home of Benjamin Britten’s music and where many of his opera may be heard. The opera Peter Grimes was recently performed on the sea front to international acclaim. The hall is also home to the Southwold and Aldeburgh Summer Theatre.
Thorpeness Model Village
Designed and built in the 1930’s the village includes wonderful mock tudor wood framed houses and country club. Added to these are more modern art deco and ‘grand design’ sea front properties. All these sit sound the mere where you can hire a row boat or relax over coffee and cake. The quirky nature of the village is completed by the windmill and ‘House in the Clouds’. Step back in time in this amazing little village.
